Is Jesus Lord?

There used to be a television commercial by Burger King that said, “Have it your Way!”. That slogan worked great for Burger King for almost 40 years, but for us as Christians, it just doesn’t have the same effect. What I mean by that is that God’s Kingdom is just that… it’s a Kingdom and not democracy. We don’t get a vote. We don’t get it our way.

Maybe you were in a church service and the pastor asked you, “Who here today would like to accept Jesus into their heart to be their Savior?” I have heard it phrased that way and as a pastor I’ve asked people the same question. However, unless there is proper discipleship and we grow in God’s Word and the things of The Spirit, then Jesus will be just that to us: our Savior. He will just exist to save us and we’ll never know the joy of living a life of calling Him Lord.

Don’t get me wrong. Saving us is His job description. He is our Savior. However, He also wants to be our Lord. That’s where it gets interesting and really fun. Let’s look at what the Bible says about Jesus being our Lord.

Romans 10:9 (NKJV) “if you confess with your mouth the Lord Jesus and believe in your heart that God has raised Him from the dead, you will be saved.”

Now obviously, some of you are asking, “Ok… are you getting all religious on me? I mean, you know that we are saved by grace and not through works. Our salvation is a gift from God…” I agree with you. We are saved by grace, absolutely… 100% YES!!! What I am talking about is us as Christians surrendering our hearts to Christ and following Holy Spirit everyday—moment by moment, and not out of religious obligation but out of relationship and love for Him.

Romans 8:14 “For as many as are led by the Spirit of God, these are sons of God.”

Being led by Holy Spirit is about relationship. It is about spending time in His Presence and knowing His heart and His voice. It’s about being so full of Him that you overflow with His love and His life and pour that life out onto those around you. It’s about a life fully surrendered to Him because you absolutely love Him.

So, I want to ask you this question? Have you made Jesus the Lord of your life? Are you truly your own or have you surrendered your life and given yourself to Him? Are there also things that you are still holding onto that you know do not honor and bless His heart? Only you can answer that. I want to encourage you today to make Him Lord. Only when you lose your life for Him do you truly gain it.
